About Longsheng (Longji Terraces)

Longji's terraces extend from 300 to 1,100 metres elevation, following mountain contours in mesmerizing curved bands. The four main viewing areas — Ping'an, Dazhai, Tiantouzhai, and Jinkeng — offer different village experiences. The Yao women of Dazhai are famous for their extraordinarily long hair, traditionally never cut after adulthood. Each season transforms the landscape: spring brings mirror-like sky reflections in flooded terraces, summer fills them with intense green rice, autumn turns them gold, and winter frost creates a silver panorama.

Highlights

2

3

4

6

Seasonal terrace colors: spring water reflections, summer green, autumn gold, winter frost

Climate & Best Time to Visit

Subtropical mountain climate. Cool evenings year-round due to elevation. Summers warm with afternoon rain. Winters cold with potential snow and frost on the terraces. Spring cherry blossoms are an added bonus.

Getting There

From Guilin: 2 hours by bus or minivan to Longsheng town, then local transport to terrace areas. Direct tourist buses run from Guilin bus station to Ping'an or Dazhai. Day trips from Guilin are possible but an overnight stay in terrace-village guesthouses is strongly recommended.

Practical Tips

Book terrace-village guesthouse accommodation well in advance for peak seasons (May–June, October)

The ascent to viewpoints involves many stairs — bring comfortable shoes with good grip

Combination tickets cover multiple viewing areas within a zone — worth the extra cost

Red Yao hair-washing ceremony performances are commercial but impressive — a cultural experience

Porters can carry heavy luggage up the stairs for a modest fee
