About Nanchang
On 1 August 1927, communist forces launched the Nanchang Uprising that gave birth to the People's Liberation Army, an event still celebrated as Army Day. The August 1st Uprising Museum and related sites draw patriotic tourism year-round. Beyond its revolutionary identity, Nanchang is a vibrant commercial city bordering the vast Poyang Lake — China's largest freshwater lake and a critical winter habitat for Siberian cranes. The city's lively Bayi Square and the historic Tengwang Pavilion on the Gan River offer scenic respites.
