About Wulingyuan

The park covers 264 square kilometres of towering stone columns, many over 200 metres high, draped in forest and often wrapped in clouds. Visitors explore on foot via extensive trail networks and cable cars — the Bailong Elevator rises 326 metres from a gorge floor (world's tallest outdoor lift), and the Tianmen Mountain cable car stretches 7.5 km across the landscape (world's longest). The Glass Bridge spanning two cliffs offers an unforgettable transparent crossing high above the forest canopy.

Climate & Best Time to Visit

Subtropical humid climate at moderate altitude. Mild winters (avg 5°C in January), warm humid summers (avg 28°C in July). The park is often cloud-covered and misty — ideal for atmospheric photography. Rainfall peaks April–August.

Getting There

Zhangjiajie Hehua International Airport (DYG) with flights to Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chengdu, and growing international routes. High-speed rail to Zhangjiajie West Station from Changsha (~2 hrs) or Shanghai (~8 hrs). Wulingyuan Scenic Area is 45 km from Zhangjiajie city center (40 min by public bus or taxi).

Practical Tips

Multi-day scenic area tickets give access for 3–4 days — worth it given the park's enormous size

Arrive at Tianzi Mountain cable car at dawn for the best photography conditions

The park is huge — plan one or two zones per day rather than rushing between highlights

The Glass Bridge requires a separate advance online booking with strictly limited daily capacity

Weather changes rapidly — always bring rain gear and a warm layer even in summer
