Plaza de Tiananmén

At 440,000 square metres, Tiananmen Square is one of the world's largest public plazas, flanked by the Great Hall of the People and the National Museum of China. The Gate of Heavenly Peace at its northern end — bearing a famous portrait of Chairman Mao — gives access to the Forbidden City and anchors ceremonies of Chinese national significance.
