Chengdu Panda Base

The Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding is home to over 80 giant pandas and 30 red pandas in a bamboo-forested setting 10 km north of the city center, founded in 1987 with just 6 wild-rescued pandas. Morning visits (before 10am) offer the best opportunity to observe the pandas actively feeding before their midday naps, and the on-site nursery occasionally allows viewing of panda cubs.
