Perched above 1,500 m on Guizhou's Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau, Bijie is home to one of China's largest concentrations of Yi people. The dramatic Sichuan-Guizhou stone forest at Zhijin Cave — the world's largest karst cave — and the serene Caohai Lake, a haven for migratory black-necked cranes, are the city's headline attractions. Traditional Yi torch festivals, colourful embroidered costumes and ancient mountain villages give Bijie a rich cultural texture largely undiscovered by international visitors.
