À propos de Cuandixia

Unlike reconstructed ancient streets found elsewhere in China, Cuandixia is the real thing — a living community where elderly residents still occupy original siheyuan courtyard houses. The village is a designated cultural heritage site, carefully restored without being over-commercialized. Film directors and photographers prize its golden autumn hillsides draped in persimmon trees, while spring brings apricot blossoms. Visitors can stay overnight in guesthouses converted from original courtyard homes.

Climate & Best Time to Visit

Semi-arid mountain microclimate, cooler and drier than Beijing. Summers are warm but not oppressive; winters cold with occasional snow. Autumn is the most beautiful and popular season.

Comment s'y rendre

Approximately 90 km west of Beijing. Direct tourist buses run from Beijing Pingguoyuan subway station (end of Line 1) on weekends and holidays. By car, take the G6 expressway toward Zhangjiakou then exit toward Zhaitang. Journey takes 1.5–2 hours.

Conseils pratiques

An entrance fee is collected at the village — funds heritage conservation

Wear comfortable shoes — paths are steep stone steps

Book accommodation well in advance for autumn weekends

Bring cash — card acceptance is very limited in the village

Morning light offers the best photography conditions on the courtyard walls
