Royal hot springs where Tang emperors bathed and history was made
Huaqing Pool (Huaqing Chi) is a complex of hot spring baths and Tang dynasty palace ruins 30 km east of Xi'an, where Emperor Xuanzong and his legendary consort Yang Guifei spent winters in the 8th century — their love story became one of China's most famous poems. The Xi'an Incident of 1936, when Chiang Kai-shek was captured by his own generals here, adds a second dramatic layer to this already historically charged site.
