Baoshan

Once a critical node on the Southwest Silk Road linking China to Myanmar and beyond, Baoshan retains a frontier character shaped by centuries of trade and ethnic diversity. The city is flanked by Tengchong to the west, famous for its active volcanic fields, and the Nu River gorge to the east. Local markets overflow with jade, amber and exotic produce, while hot springs bubble across the surrounding countryside. The Bai minority's architecture and festivals add vivid colour to the region.
